World War I and II publications. [1940-1945]

A collection of French magazines and newspapers, both civilian and military, covering mainly the liberation of France in May 1945. Includes issues of Carrefour, Spectateur, Les Nouvelles du matin and others. Also includes a variety of magazine and newspaper issues from wartime France from 1940 to August 1945. Two file folders are labeled : "1940-1941 Franco-German magazines (Nazi propaganda) published in French" (includes Signal: Edition speciale de la "Berliner Illustrierte Zeitung" and Pariser Zeitung) and "Paris magazines, end of the war, Liberation, May 1945." Additional materials from World War I include an incomplete collection of the weekly Le panorama de la guerre de 1914, issued between 1914 and 1919, incomplete set of Gabriel Hanotaux' Histoire illustreĢe de la guerre de 1914, and several issues of Wieland, issued by the German Red Cross, 1915.

BIOGHIST REQUIRED Movie and television director. Florey (1900-1979) was born in France and went to Hollywood in 1921. His two most famous movies were THE MURDERS IN THE RUE MORGUE and THE BEAST WITH FIVE FINGERS.
